Journal kept by Leonard Fairbanks, boatsteerer aboard ship HANNIBAL of Sag Harbor, N.Y. during a whaling voyage to the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Narrative is primarily an overview of the voyage without many whaling details. Describes problems with crew, burial at sea, life at sea, condition of the ship and Fairbanks eventual discharge at Sydney, Australia with subsequent voyage to London. Contains poetry and crew list for HANNIBAL and ship THOMAS LOWRY.
